Miami based Luminaire collaborated with Christie's to organize an auction called "Puppylove Project." Thirty six internationally known architects, artists and designers were asked to convert Eero Aarnio's plastic Puppy by Magis into a unique creation to be auctioned off on December 8, 2006. All proceeds of this auction go directly to cancer research at the University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. Eero Aarnio's new design for Artek, the Rocket, was displayed at the 100% Design Show in London in September of 2006. In the spring of 2006, Eero Aarnio designed the Copacabana Guitar for Antti Kallio/Plectra ry and it was released to the public in Helsinki on May 23rd. In January 2006, the Trioli children's chair was chosen as one of the Interior Innovation Award Cologne winners at the International In December 2005, Eero Aarnio was awarded the Suomi-palkinto (Finland Award) for an outstanding artistic career. The award is granted by the Finnish Ministry of Education and was presented by the Cultural Minister Tanja Karpela. In the fall of 2005, Eero Aarnio joined the well established Finnish company Artek as one of their new freelance designers. |
